Summary:
 HB 289 makes an appropriation of $250,000 for training to the Health Department and to contract with a Lesbian, gay,bisexual, transgender, and queer organization in health care laws, and patient rights.

 Synopsis: HB 289 makes an appropriation to the Department of Health to contract with community based Lesbian, gay,bisexual, transgender, and queer organizations to train health care providers on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer health care laws and provider and patient rights and best practices for inclusivity and the implementation of an education campaign on HIV prevention and testing.

Analysis: House Bill 289 (HB289) states that a two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Health for expenditure in fiscal year 2025 for contracting with community-based lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer organizations for the following purposes:
(1) training health care providers on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer health care laws, provider and patient rights and best practices for inclusivity; and (2) implementing an education campaign on HIV prevention and testing awareness.
