Summary:
 Senate Bill 42 (SB 42) adds a new requirement to add a school safety communication system in public schools. It also amends code to include this requirement in the definition of “Building System” in the Public School Capital Outlay Act.
 
Legislation Overview:
 SECTION 1 adds to Public Schools Section 22-13-14.1 NMSA 1978 to require a school safety communications system, provide specifics about what may be included in this system, and to include a definition of a “school safety communication system”. The school safety communication system is defined in Subsection C as “a multimedia data communications system that connects law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical services with school administrators and staff during an emergency." 

SECTION 2 amends Public Schools Section 22-24-3 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1975, Chapter 235, Section 3, as amended) in Subsection B defining “building system” to include a school safety communications system.  
Current Law:
 Senate Bill 226977 (226977) adds to Public Schools code the requirement for a school safety communication system and amends the definition of “building system” to include the change.
