Summary:
 House Bill 277 (HB 277) relates to teacher licensure. HB 277 expands the scope of the computer science endorsement to all licensed teachers and makes an appropriation.

 House Bill 277 (HB 277) expands the scope of the computer science endorsement to all licensed teachers  andmakes an appropriation.

SECTION 1 amends Public Schools. Section 22-10A-6 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1986, Chapter 33, Section 8, as amended) under Educational Requirements for Licensure in Subsection F to provide that before December 31, 2024 the department shall create a license endorsement in computer science. In this subsection, “secondary” is deleted, which results in the subsection making computer science licensure available to all teachers who meet the criteria of this subsection.

SECTION 2 appropriates $150,000 from the General Fund to the Public Education Department for expenditure in Fiscal Year 2025 to expand the scope of the computer science license endorsement to all licensed teachers. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of Fiscal Year 2025 shall revert to the General Fund.
