Summary:
Senate Bill 211 (SB 211) creates the Science Education Promotion Fund and requires the Economic Development Department to provide grants. SB 211 appropriates one million dollars ($1,000,000).

Legislation Overview:
Senate Bill 211 (SB 211) creates the non-reverting Science Education Promotion
Fund that the Economic Development Department (EDD) will administer through grants to institutions so they can develop and carry out a strategic plan. It requires the EDD to make rules to implement this grant process. It defines fund; institution; and strategic plan. The latter is a five-year plan to increase the institution’s educational offerings in certain science-related fields.
SB 211 appropriates one million dollars ($1,000,000) from the General Fund (GF) to the EDD for expenditure in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 and subsequent FYs to carry out the purposes of the Science Education Promotion Fund.

Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a FY will not revert to the GF.
