House Bill 244 (HB 244) provides that career and technical education courses offered by high schools shall be part of a series of courses of a single program of study relevant to a career field or industry certification. SECTION 1 amends Public Schools Section 22-13-1.1 NMSA 1978 (being Laws 1986, Chapter 33, Section 5, as amended) in GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS to delete Subsection G and reletter the section. I. Successful completion of the requirements of the New Mexico diploma of excellence shall be required for graduation. Successful completion of a minimum of 24 units shall be required to earn a New Mexico diploma of excellence. These units shall be as described in this subsection. I(7) is amended as follows: Career and technical education courses shall be offered as an elective; provided that every career and technical education course offered shall be a part of a series of at least three courses that are a part of a single program of study that is relevant to a career field or industry certification. SECTION 2 makes the effective date July 1, 2024.Relates To:
