Senate Bill 213 (SB 213) enacts a new section of the Pharmacy Act to establish that registered nurses (RNs) add licensed practical nurses (LPNs) employed by opioid treatment programs may dispense methadone for take-home purposes.Legislation Overview:
The bill proposes that under the supervision of a licensed physician an RN or LPN employed by an opioid treatment center approved by the Department of Health may dispense a maximum of a 27 day supply of methadone for a client to take at home.Current Law:
Currently only pharmacists may dispense methadone for take-home purposes. If the bill does not pass, this restriction will remain in place.Amendments:
