Summary:
 HB 107 modifies the amount and increase in awards fior death oir injury for hospitals and outpatien clinics owned by hosptitals to $1,000,000.  
Legislation Overview:
 Synopsis: HB 107 relates to health care by modifying the Medical Malpractice Act to change the limitation of recovery for certain claims against hospitals and outpatient health care facilities that are hospital owned. 
Analysis: HB 107 modifies certain malpractice awards found in the Medical Malpractice Act by changing the limitation of recovery for certain claims against hospital and outpatient health care facilities that are owned by a hospital.
New language now states that for an injury or death that occurred in calendar year 2025, one million dollars ($1,000,000) per occurrence; and (2) for an injury or death that occurred in calendar year 2026 and thereafter, the amount provided in Paragraph (1) of this subsection, adjusted annually by the prior three-year average consumer price index for all urban consumers, per occurrence.
The original Paragraph (1) refers to a graduated increase in awards for death or injury awards for years 2022 thru 2027. The original amounts range from $4,000,000 to $6,000,000. Each year is also adjusted after 2027 by the consumer price index for urban consumers. 
The effective date of the provisions of this Act is January 1, 2025.
