Summary:
 SB53 (226442) modifies  the malpractice award amounts to one million dollars effective January 1, 2025.

 Synopsis: SB 53 relates to health care by modifying the Medical Malpractice Act to change the limitation of recovery for certain claims against hospitals and outpatient health care facilities that are hospital controlled. 

Analysis: SB53 modifies the Medical Malpractice Act to change the limitation of recovery for certain claims against hospitals and outpatient health care facilities that are hospital controlled.
In calendar year 2025, the malpractice award amounts that were graduated from earlier amounts would have been, five million, five hundred thousand,  $5,500,000 would now be reduced to one million ,$1,000,000.
For an injury or death that occurred in calendar year 2026 and thereafter, the amount provided in Paragraph (1) of this subsection, adjusted annually by the prior three-year average consumer price index for all urban consumers, per occurrence. Paragraph (1) refers to the graduated increase in award amounts per year. 

The effective date of this Act is January 1, 2025.
