Summary:

 Senate Bill 440 (SB 440) makes an appropriation to the Department of Finance and Administration to support state agency language plans. 

Legislation Overview:

 Senate Bill 440 (SB 440) appropriates two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) from the General Fund to the Department of Finance and Administration for expenditure in Fiscal Year 2026 and subsequent Fiscal Years to support state agency language access plans as required according to Section 9-1-5 NMSA 1978. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of a Fiscal Year is not to revert to the General Fund.

 

Current Law:

 A Language Access Plan sets forth the actions an agency will take to ensure meaningful access to their services for Limited English Proficient New Mexicans. An appropriation is not yet available to support New Mexico state agencies in developing and implementing such plans.
